What kind of photography do you do?
What kind of photography do you do? Editorial and commercial assignments for publications and websites, portraits, travel photography, college and professional sports and other events. Go to my online gallery to see samples of my work. My photographs have appeared in regional, national and international publications like The Boston Globe, Yankee magazine, Internazionale, and Pakn Treger. I also make photographs for UMass Amherst, Mount Holyoke College and other schools and universities. My fee varies depending on client's needs but expect to pay about $500 for a half day of location photography. Contact me for a more detailed estimate on larger projects or other services. What is the best way to contact you? Most of my work today is digital although I have years of experience shooting film and still use that medium for some projects. I photograph mostly on location, however I have access to studio space whenever neccessary. Do you travel for assignments? Most of my work is in the Northeast region but I am available for assignments anywhere. I have photographed in most of the U.S. and several countries. I am available on a limited basis for weddings and other personal events. I use Photoshop to process my digital files and for photo-illustrations. In most cases I do not alter my photographs unless by client request. Do you offer other photographic services? Film scanning, high resolution ink-jet printing, photoshop corrections and alterations. How long have you been a professional photographer? I have been making photographs for more than 20 years, starting as a reporter for my local newspaper during college. Where did you learn photography? I learned basics as a journalism student at Boston University and during seven years as a newspaper photographer. I have also studied at the Maine Photographic Workshops, the International Center of Photography and the Rich Clarkson summer sports festival workshop. I have also learned much by experimentation, curiosity and failure. I am currently teaching Digital Photojournalism in Practice through the Online Journalism certificate program at UMass Amherst. Are the photographs in your online galleries for sale? Yes. My photographs are available as exhibition-quality prints, or publication rights can also be negotiated. Do you exhibit your photographs? My photographs have been displayed in galleries in Western Massachusetts, Cape Cod and New York. Contact me for more information about showing my work. What projects are you working on now? Currently I'm documenting the Lamson & Goodnow knife factory in Shelburne Falls, one of the oldest cutlery manufacturers in the U.S. and an historical icon in the river milltown tradition. I'm also continuing work on Garden Variety, a collection of Holga photographs of vegetables from my garden. Why do you use a plastic toy camera? Are you nuts? Not Yet. The Holga is a simple and unpredictable instrument and I'm forever surprised by the results I get from it. It's an antidote to the high-tech digital photography that I do every day. What's your cat's name? Why do you shave your head?
